The monastery of St. Marienthal is the oldest convent of the Cistercian order in Germany. Faithful to the monastic motto "ora et labora" (pray and work), sisters of the Cistercian order have been living here since 1234. The present monastery complex appeared after the great fire of 1683 in the Bohemian Baroque style and remained closed. In 1357, the monastery was awarded by the Kaiser Charles IV the right to brewing - the birth of the Mariental brewery. Even today, the monastery of Saint Marienthal with its location near three countries of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic is an ideal starting point for excursions to the picturesque surroundings and attractions of the region. Hospitality, which has been preserved for centuries in the monastery, occupies a special place and must be true to the rule of St. Benedict, "proved to all who come to the monastery".
